Anthropologist and PhD Candidate at Boston University, currently based in Istanbul for dissertation fieldwork and documentary projects.

Begüm’s research explores the intimate intersections of care policies, humanitarian aid, and community networks in the everyday lives of displaced people. Her work delves into how political violence and disasters shape subjectivities and care practices among Syrian migrants living in Istanbul’s peripheral neighborhoods. As part of her ethnographic documentary project, she visualizes Syrian women's home-making practices and foodways in the aftermath of displacement and disaster.
